The two options are either a standard low voltage inlet or an electrical inlet, which has electrical wiring in addition to low voltage wiring. An electrical inlet will have a 120v receptacle above the hose connection, where a standard inlet will not.

The Three Types of Central Vacuum Hoses

• Pigtail – Standard hose with a four to eight-foot power cord that plugs into regular wall outlets to power electrical attachments. Works with both standard and electrical inlets.

• Standard – A vacuum hose that activates the central vacuum system using a low voltage connection, and will not power electrical attachments. Works with both standard and electrical inlets.

• Direct Connect – A hose that has both a low voltage activator, and prongs to fit into the 120v receptacle to power electrical attachments. Works only with an electrical inlet.
